CATERING & HOSPITALITY
Chef Jobs
Chef jobs are rewarding, creative but highly pressurized. Getting a job as a chef means working as part of the hospitality sector, which has seen a steady rise in the number of jobs available within the last few years. The industry is currently booming as new pubs, cafes, restaurants and hotels are constantly opening all over the UK.
If you have no commercial experience at all it's best to get any job you can in a professional kitchen. This will give you the chance to observe the experienced chefs, how they work and how they interact with the other staff members. Even if you're washing dishes, having commercial experience on your CV will go a long way in getting employed as a chef. It also shows that you're keen and committed and if you demonstrate this a head chef will soon start giving you other simple tasks. Some of the best chef's have started this way. In order to work in a professional kitchen, you'll first need to get a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.

Once you have some professional kitchen experience and you're getting interest from your CV, make sure you always show your enthusiasm for cooking at interviews. You can do this by talking about recipes you have created at home, food you loved while abroad or cookery books you're currently reading. To make it as a chef, it's essential that you're passionate about food but you also need hands-on experience and training. If you have managed to get a recognised qualification from a college or got some experience at a top restaurant you could be well on your way to getting a great, rather than mediocre chef job.
