The entry requirements for receptionist jobs depend on the nature of the business. Some job descriptions may state that the company is looking to employ someone with previous reception experience, knowledge of particular computer software or switchboard experience. They may sometimes require a first aid certificate although most employers will send their staff on first aid courses as part of the training. Receptionist jobs at hospitals are unlikely to have formal entry requirements, although employers usually look for candidates with GCSEs or the equivalent.
Working hours are usually nine to five, with the possibility of extra hours during busy periods.
