Recruitment consultants are used by employers and job seekers in order to match the right candidate to the right job. Consultants will fill positions that are permanent or temporary, and range from junior level to managers or directors. A recruitment consultant will need knowledge of a variety of business sectors in order to evaluate and identify suitable candidates for their clients. They must also have the ability to identify the needs of the candidate and match them to a suitable role. A recruitment consultant will asses the skills a candidate has through tests and interviews then recommend them to suitable clients. They will also be expected to provide advice and information to their clients and candidates on all aspects of the work available including salary, training and career opportunities.
A trainee recruitment consultant can expect to earn a basic salary of £14,000 to £20,000, which will increase dramatically once two to three years' experience has been gained.
Recruitment is often linked to human resources, although the role is similar to a sales job. The work is target driven and bonuses are awarded according to whether targets have been met. The role will not suit anyone who is not commercially driven or does not thrive on working in a pressurized environment.
